About

What is Deep Dive?

Deep Dive is a literary hub and reading community with the mission to engage with literature in everyday life. We write about books, culture, lifestyle, and literary trends.

Reading doesn’t need to be an isolating activity. On the contrary, at Deep Dive we believe that literature is a great way to foster community. Our goal is to provide an open space for enriching discussion and communal reading where, together, we dive deep into different kinds of texts and ideas.

Deep Dive is born out of the desire to get literary analysis and discussion out of academia and classrooms and expand it to our everyday lives. As readers, we are constantly in motion, experiencing the world through a wider lens. This allows us to take in nuanced information that we can challenge critically to form our own perspectives. Thanks to literature, we can understand different realities and cultures, learning about them while also seeing ourselves reflected in the words we read.

That’s what we’re here for.

Our founder & curator

Valeria is, in short, a reader and a writer.

She has loved books and reading from a young age, but discovered her passion for literary analysis and discussion during her Bachelor’s in English Studies. This later led her to pursue a Master’s in Western Literature.

During her studies, her research interests focused on Gothic Literature and Liminality. She contributed to The Palgrave Handbook of Contemporary Gothic (2020), published by Palgrave Macmillan and edited by Emeritus Professor Clive Bloom. She also co-founded the first graduate student conference in literature at the KU Leuven Arts Faculty and participated in literary seminars at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid.

She strongly believes that literature should be accessible for everyone and that reading is a transformative force that shapes us and our communities.

Valeria enjoys as many different kinds of books as she can, although she tends to gravitate towards melancholic and introspective stories where morally gray characters are explored.

Three of her favorite novels are:

  • We Have Always Lived in the Castle, by Shirley Jackson.
  • Bunny, by Mona Awad.
  • Froth of the Daydream, by Boris Vian.

She is currently based in-between Madrid and Abu Dhabi.

and what is it you’re going to say
i’m just going to say something
and what’s this you’re going to do
I’m going to hide behind language
why
i’m afraid
